Days Out In Yorkshire By Bike
Malham Tarn is well known for its stunning scenery, and there’s a great simple bike ride around the tarn that the whole family will enjoy. It’s mostly on a lane with a small bit of road cycling on a quiet road, and at just 4 miles it’s perfect for beginners. There are plenty of places to stop off along the way to take in the scenery, look for birds and insects and generally enjoy the area! Follow the link to view the route map and directions.
Wetherby Railway Path
Following the line of a disused railway, this cycle path is flat, traffic-free and perfect for families, taking in the market town of Wetherby. It actually starts at Spofforth Castle in the nearby village of Spofforth (which is free and well worth a visit), then goes through Wetherby and on to Thorp Arch. At 3 miles from Spofforth to Wetherby, you could stop off in town for tea and cake, and then head back to Spofforth for an easy 6-miler. For a map and directions, take a look at this page from the Sustrans.
Dalby forest is known for its cycling, and this 6 mile trail is perfect for families. If you’d like to split up and try different routes depending on skill level, there are lots of others to try, from those with steep climbs to routes with jumps! As well as cycling, Dalby has adventure play areas, hiking, a shop and a tea room – everything a family needs for a great day out!
