Calling all inquisitive inventors and pie lovers! Vale of Mowbray are on the hunt for the most peculiar and preposterous pie recipe, but we need the help of curious minds.

We want you to design a scrumptiously weird and wonderful pie to tantalise the tastebuds of pie enthusiasts. Download our pie design form or simply submit a drawing of your pie by taking a photograph.

Anyone between the ages of 5 and 16 can enter the competition and judging will be split into three categories; 5-8 years, 9-12 years and 13-16 years, before being judged by chefs, Michael Wignall, Steph Moon, Doug Crampton, food writer Elaine Lemm and our very own NPD Innovation Manager, Mirela Caba. One winner from each category will get their hands on the below prizes…

Competition Terms and Conditions

    1. The promotion is open to mainland UK residents only aged 5 to 16 years old, excluding employees and their immediate families of Vale of Mowbray, its agents and anyone professionally connected with the promotion. Third-party entries from a parent or guardian on behalf of their child are accepted.
    2. To participate, entrants must enter the Peculiar & Preposterous Pork Pie competition on the Vale of Mowbray website – Entrants must submit their full name, age, town, the name of their pie, a description of the pie and upload an image of the pie.
    3. Entries must be received by 23.59, 16/04/2021, to be in with a chance of winning the prize. All competition entries received after the time specified are automatically disqualified.
    4. All entrants will be split into the following three age categories, 5-8 year olds, 9-12 year olds and 13-16 year olds. There will be three winners of the competition, one selected from each age category. There will be 3 semi-finalists of each category selected by a panel of judges. The judges will submit their decisions and the semi-finalists will be notified on the 30/04/21. The semi-finalists entries will then be subject to a public vote hosted on Vale of Mowbray’s Facebook page ( whereby members of the public will be able to vote once in each category for the recipe they want to win. The entry in each category with the most votes will win the competition. Voting will begin on the 03/05/21 9:00am and finish on the 17/05/21 23:59. The final 3 winners will be notified and announced on the 18/05/21.
    5. Prizes must be taken as stated. Children must be supervised when using cooking utensils and appliances. The prizes for each winner are as follows:

    1. Only one entry per person. Third-party entries from a parent or guardian on behalf of their child are accepted.
    2. If it becomes apparent that either a participant or household is using any means to circumvent this condition such as, and without limitation, multiple email accounts, multiple reproduced or computer generated entries, fraudulently falsifying data, acting fraudulently or dishonestly in the opinion of Vale of Mowbray or otherwise acting in violation of these terms, these participants will be disqualified and any prize entitlement will be void.
    3. Everyone who meets the entry criteria will be considered by an impartial panel of judges for the prize.
    4. No purchase is necessary to enter.
    5. Entries that are incomplete, lost, mislaid, damaged, corrupted, delayed, wrongly delivered, or not received for whatever reason will not be accepted. Vale of Mowbray give no assurances relating to the successful submission of any entry.
    6. The entry instructions form part of the rules. By entering, you agree to accept and be bound by the rules.
    7. There is no cash or alternative to the prize stated and we cannot send the prize to anyone other than the named winner. The prize is non-transferable, non-refundable and cannot be resold. Vale of Mowbray reserves the right to substitute the prize for an alternative one of the same or higher value and/or to substitute any of the listed items at its discretion.
    8. The semi-finalists will be notified via direct message, email or phone call within 72 hours of the closing date. Each semi-finalist will be asked to confirm they are happy with their entry being shared publicly for a public vote to decide on the final three winners.
    9. We may ask semi-finalists for proof of identity, age and address.
    10. If a prize is not claimed (or if all necessary details are not confirmed) within a further 48 hours of the prize winner being notified, the prize will be awarded to a new winner, with no liability to the original winner. The new winning entrants will be the runner up in their age category. Vale of Mowbray does not accept any responsibility if you are not able to take up the prize.
    11. The winners agree to their name being used for promotional purposes, and their details being passed onto a third party for the dispatch of prizes by grounds of legitimate interest as a lawful grounds for such use. Details of the winner’s names and county may be shared with anyone who requests their details within one month of the prize winner announcement. If you are a winner, we may ask you to take part in publicity relating to this competition with no further recompense. This is optional and you are able to decline to take part in any further publicity.
    12. We will not tolerate anyone who posts or is seen to be posting comments via social media or anywhere else during this prize promotion that we think are bullying, spiteful or upsetting to other entrants and followers of Vale of Mowbray or directly aimed at us. Anyone acting in this way will be disqualified from the prize promotion. We may also alert the relevant social media platform to any such behaviour and as a result the participant may have his/her social media account frozen pending investigation.
    13. If you would like to know the name and county of the winners, please send an email to within one month of the winners announcement. We will not enter into any discussion on social media about this prize promotion.
    14. We reserve the right to cancel, amend, withdraw, terminate or temporarily suspend this promotion for whatever reason, with no liability to any entrants or third parties but if this happens we will use all reasonable endeavours to avoid consumer disappointment.
    15. Insofar as is permitted by law, Vale of Mowbray, its agents or distributors will not in any circumstances be responsible or liable to compensate the winners or accept any liability for any loss, damage, personal injury or death occurring as a result of taking up the prize except where it is caused by the negligence of Vale of Mowbray, its agents or distributors or that of their employees. Your statutory rights are not affected.
    16. Vale of Mowbray’s decision is final and binding. No correspondence will be entered into.
    17. As part of the introduction of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) we have updated our Privacy Notices. These Privacy Notices set out the basis on which any personal data we collect from you, or that you provide to us, will be processed. Vale of Mowbray and their agency partner Hatch Communications will only process your personal information as set out in the Privacy Notice: . By entering into this competition and providing us with your information, you agree to these terms and conditions and our Privacy Notices. Vale of Mowbray and Hatch Communications are only using the personal data of the entrants to administer the competition on the basis that it is necessary for entering or performing a Contract, unless otherwise stipulated by the entrant whilst completing the entry form.
    18. The application and interpretation of these terms and conditions shall be governed by the law of England and Wales and the courts of England.
