The 1st of August is of course Yorkshire Day – when we celebrate all things great about this wonderful corner of the world. It’s the perfect excuse to have a big get-together with family and friends, so we’ve put together a Yorkshire Day banquet menu, using some of our very favourite foods from around the region!
For Starters – Wensleydale and Beetroot Salad (serves 2)
You Will Need:
1 little gem lettuce
1 tbsp olive oil
1 tbsp wholegrain mustard
1 tbsp honey
200g beetroot, cooked until tender and thinly sliced
75g wensleydale cheese
A handful of watercress
Roughly chop the baby gem lettuce, add the sliced beetroot, and crumble in the Wensleydale cheese. Combine the olive oil, honey and mustard to make a light dressing, and toss with the salad. Sprinkle the watercress over the top to finish – easy peasy!
For the Main – Sharing Pork Pie and Yorkshire Puddings
You can’t get much more Yorkshire than a Vale of Mowbray pork pie, and our Grosvenor Pork Pie with Egg is absolutely perfect for a banquet. Serve with roasted vegetables (we like carrots, broccoli, red onion and red pepper, sprinkled liberally with oil and rosemary) and Yorkshire Puddings.
Need a Yorkshire Pudding recipe? Every family has their own method, but we think you can’t go wrong with this how-to from Jamie Oliver.
For Dessert – Rhubarb Ice Cream
Yorkshire is famous for its rhubarb, and if you haven’t yet tried rhubarb ice cream you’re in for a treat. The best we can find is from Waitrose, but this rhubarb syrup tastes great on ordinary vanilla ice cream (and lasts for weeks). If you’re feeling particularly adventurous, why not make your own?
We hope you enjoy Yorkshire Day this year, and if you are picking up one of our pork pies keep an eye out in selected Asda, Tesco and Sainsbury’s stores for our special offers!
